John Armstrong

John Armstrong is a highly experienced leader with over 20 years of experience in the field of higher education; throughout his career, he has held leadership roles in the areas of Residential Life, Facilities Operations, Student Conduct, Threat Assessment, Faith Community Engagement and Off Campus & Commuter Student Services. Driven by his commitment to Off-Campus and Commuter student success, John joined ITGA in 2012 and has remained an engaged member ever since. He also served as Co-Chair of the NASPA Knowledge Community for Off-Campus and Commuter Students.

John currently serves as Associate Dean of Students at UConn with a focus in Community and External Relations where he leads initiatives for Family Communication, Faith Initiatives and support for Off Campus and Commuter Students. He teaches two seminars at UConn; First Year Experience and Senior Year Experience where he guides students as they enter UConn and as they prepare to graduate.

Through his collaborative work with the Town of Mansfield, CT, he is a long-standing member of the Town University Relations Committee, Vice Chair for the Mansfield Affordable Housing Committee, collaborator with Mansfield’s Human Rights Commission and University Liaison with the Connecticut State Police. He has been recognized at UConn for his work in stakeholder and partnership development; in 2017 receiving the Outstanding Peer Award and in 2024 being recognized with the prestigious, University Citizen award.

Prior to entering Higher Education, John served proudly in the United States Army and currently chairs UConn’s Veteran’s Advisory Council.
