Michael Miller

Michael A. Miller is a proud lifelong resident of Akron, where he lives with his family and remains deeply committed to the community he serves. He holds both a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Akron. In July 2024, Michael further advanced his professional growth by graduating from the prestigious Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), Session 93. He is also a graduate of Leadership Akron Class 41, where the relationships and connections he forged have significantly enhanced his ability to serve and lead in his community.

With over 29 years of law enforcement experience, Michael has been a dedicated member of the Akron Police Department since 1999. Over the course of his career, he has earned numerous community service awards and has gained the deep respect of both his colleagues and the Akron community. His leadership and commitment have led to a series of well-deserved promotions, and he currently serves as Deputy Chief. In this role, Michael oversees the Community Relations and Crime Prevention Sub-Division, leading the department’s community engagement efforts. Prior to this, he served as the department’s Public Information Officer for over five years, a role he considered a great honor.

Guided by the African philosophy of Ubuntu, Deputy Chief Miller believes in the interconnectedness of humanity, embracing the idea that “I am because we are.” This philosophy underscores his approach to leadership and community service, reflecting his unwavering commitment to fostering unity and collaboration within Akron.
